Use CG COOL to Host a Group Course in 3 Easy Steps

Group courses are a great way to get your unit their captain’s license. They require a minimum of 10 people, and a course “champion” is needed to assist with coordination. We are happy to work with ETQC to reduce the adminstrative burden on your unit and its members.

Contact Pathfinder Maritime by email, phone, or text to learn more!

01

REQUEST COOL FUNDING

Once you have 10+ people interested in earning a captain’s license, contact Pathfinder, and we will work with the course “champion” and ETQC to coordinate COOL funding.

To us the course champion is someone passionate about helping their shipmates earn a captain’s license. We’ve worked with ranks ranging from E4 to E9 and O3 to ESOs.

02

ENROLL & COMPLETE ONLINE LESSONS

Once COOL funding has been requested, Pathfinder will enroll each member in the course(s). From here, members can complete the online lessons on their at own pace.

A Pathfinder instructor will be assigned to your group and will be available to assist with any learning support.

03

ATTEND THE IN-PERSON SESSION

Group courses include a single-day, in-person session. This session includes a course review, final exams, and National Maritime Center application review. This typically takes ~5 hours, and Pathfinder will coordinate with the course champion to schedule this session.

We know operational schedules can be challenging so if members cannot attend the session, that is not a problem! We will work with them to complete all requirements.

Individual Enrollments: Earn Your Captain’s License in 3 Easy Steps

If you are not part of a group course, you can use COOL to earn your captain’s license at no cost in combination with Pathfinder’s Delayed Payment Agreement.

Contact Pathfinder Maritime by email, phone, or text to learn more!

01

SUBMIT a COOL Application

Review COOL guidelines and apply to use COOL for your licensing course. At the same time, complete a Delayed Payment Agreement with Pathfinder – this will allow you to enroll in your course prior to completing payment.

02

COMPLETE THE COURSE

Once enrolled, you can complete the course on your own schedule and at your own pace. The final exams can be proctored online or in-person with your ESO.

03

SUBMIT YOUR CERTIFICATE TO COOL

After receiving your course completion certificate, submit it to the COOL office, and they will reimburse you for your tuition. If you utilized our Delayed Payment Program, you can then complete payment.

To note, our Delayed Payment Program allows you to delay payment for 90 days. Ideally this means you complete the course and receive reimbursement before paying for your course – meaning there’s no out-of-pocket cost to you.
