Pathfinder Maritime Training & Northern Michigan University Continuing Education and Workforce Development Bring Maritime Licensing to the U.P.
April 2023 – Pathfinder Maritime Training (PMT), America’s premier online captain’s licensing program, is pleased to announce its partnership with Northern Michigan University’s (NMU) Continuing Education & Workforce Development department (CEWD). PMT and NMU are beyond excited to offer maritime licensing courses to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Captain Bobby Carsey, PMT’s President, is a former Coast Guard Commanding Officer and knows just how crucial proper licensing is to the maritime industry. When discussing the importance of Michigan’s maritime industry, Captain Bobby said, “The maritime industry in the Upper Peninsula is incredibly extensive and offers exciting career options. From tourism to shipping to research vessels, the Great Lakes needs licensed mariners. We hope the partnership with Northern Michigan University will make earning a maritime license more accessible for people living in the U.P.”
Stephanie Zadroga-Langlois, Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development at NMU, said “We are very excited to partner with Pathfinder Maritime and offer maritime licensing to the U.P. PMT’s co-founder, Rebekah Carsey, is an alumni of NMU, and this is another perfect example of a Wildcat doing great things. We are confident that PMT will provide our community members with the training and knowledge they need to pursue careers on the water, whether it be as a charter guide, ferry captain, or anything in between. Our hope with this partnership is to simplify the process of earning a maritime license for those living in the Upper Peninsula.”
