April 2024 – Sector Northern New England hosted a captain’s licensing course for their members in Sault Ste. Marie where 15 Coast Guard members earned their commercial captain’s license. While all the members earned their six-pack license (i.e. OUPV), the majority chose to upgrade their license to a 100 Ton Master with assistance tow endorsement. The class consisted of members from STA Marquette, STA Houghton, and CGC Biscayne Bay.

Captain Bobby, Pathfinder’s founder, said, “Sector Northern Great Lakes was a great host! Each member worked diligently to complete the coursework, pass the exams, and earn their commercial captain’s license. They should be proud of their accomplishments!”

As part of the course, the student with the highest exam score wins a Rugged Road 45 cooler. Congrats to BMC Murphy on the highest score in the class!

Pathfinder’s online and blended captain’s license courses are a great way for Coast Guard units and other organizations to earn their merchant mariner credentials. Pathfinder’s courses are approved for COOL use, and if your unit is interested in hosting a no-cost captain’s licensing course please reach out to the Pathfinder team!
